Speelyai Hatchery is operated as a satellite facility to the Lewis River Hatchery. It is located at the upper end of Lake Merwin on the Lewis River, approximately 21 miles east of Woodland. The Lewis River and Speelyai hatcheries were originally constructed to provide mitigation for hydroelectric system development in the Lewis River System. An almost total remodel at Lewis River Hatchery was funded with state enhancement funds in 1979 and 1980. The goal of the hatchery is to produce adult coho and spring Chinook that will contribute to sport and commercial fisheries.
