Description : Lyons Ferry Hatchery was built in 1982 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as part of the Lower Snake River Compensation Plan. The hatchery is named after the family that operated a ferry service here in the late 1800s. Lyons Ferry is the only hatchery program for Snake River fall Chinook salmon and is also a major production center for spring Chinook and steelhead. Lyons Ferry Hatchery also raises rainbow trout each year for stocking low-land lakes in the Tucannon River Basin in eastern Washington and streams in northern Idaho
