Description : The hatchery is located on the Elochoman River about 10 miles upstream from the river mouth. The Elochoman River is a north bank tributary of the lower Columbia River, just downstream of Cathlamet, Washington. Beaver Creek Hatchery was authorized under the Mitchell Act and began operating in 1957 as part of the Columbia River Fisheries Development Program -- a program to mitigate for fishery losses caused by hydroelectric development in the Columbia River Basin.
