Information is limited relative to abundance and density of white sturgeon in the
transition section of the Columbia River between the Canadian border and Lake Roosevelt.
During a limited study in 1998, significant catches of adult sturgeon occurred in
this transition section; however, managers suggest that the one year of data is
not adequate to estimate abundance. The limited data indicate that the Lake Roosevelt
white sturgeon population is dominated by adult fish. Data show that natural recruitment
(i.e., juvenile survival through an individual’s first year) is limited, contributing
to the underrepresentation of sub-adult white sturgeon.
